Backlog pt. 8: Mizzy Gizzy

Earlier this fall I did a residency at a woodsy property outside Nevada City called Mizzy Gizzy...built and dwelt upon by two lovely families (Doug, Vanessa, and Isobel.....Kevin, Cheryl, Ruby, and Chiara) who made my stay cozy, and let me wander around and draw and make a map of their good corner of things.

A month after I did my time, I put up a small art show in the small cabin where I slept (with a lofted bed under a roof that hinges open to the stars....so good), and designed a little yarn marked hunt through the woods (Hansel and Grettel style) out to the sites where I sat to draw, and the sites where I began two sculptures, (a big pile of sticks, and a digging circle of rocks) which grew with the help of the crew of buddies who joined me for the weekend.

My friends Terri and Sarah just passed on some fine photos of the retreat that had me excited to break it down and blog it out.

Soup Angels

Dear friend Martin Salata is acting as soup angel this Sunday over at Pizzaiolo in Oakland (my favorite restaurant...), serving soup to those who need it for free, and to those who can afford it for a donation towards YEAH!, the Youth Emergency Assistance Hostel. Nothing wrong with that.

And Martin's soup angelhood reminds me of a more perminent installation of soup angels: Dave Muller and Lana Porcello, whose primarly soup restaurant, Outerlands, is now up and running out by Ocean Beach. It is delicious, and thee most perfect complement to the late afternoon, breezy beach hang. And chances are you'll see lots of babies there, cause they just had one and babies are like magnets for other babies. Nothing wrong with that either.

it's been all business around here...board meetings, planning committees, staff orientation etc. here's some looks into two official ribbons think tank sessions.

Scouting Outing 1: Dudes, Daughters, and Dogs.

Scouting Outing 2: Babes, Beaches, and Brainstorming
